Plebe Candidates Complete Indoctrination Training

KINGS POINT, N.Y., July 18, 2018 – Plebe candidates at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) at Kings Point completed Indoctrination Training over the weekend. The Class of 2022 began the 17-day orientation period known as Indoctrination, or Indoc, on June 29, and overnight went from plebe candidate to Plebe and were accepted into the Regiment of Midshipmen.

Professional Mariners Introduce Plebe Candidates to Simulation

KINGS POINT, N.Y., July 17, 2018 - This year, for the first time, the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Department of Marine Transportation teamed up with the USMMA's Regimental Staff to introduce the Class of 2022, to the Integrated Navigation Lab as part of Indoctrination. Captain Ann Sanborn, Master Mariner, provided a brief overview of simulator components and described the integrated navigation course.

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Class of 2022 Arrives for Indoctrination

KINGS POINT, N.Y., June 29, 2018 - The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point (USMMA) welcomed 280, Class of 2022 “plebe candidates” for initial training today.

The nearly 20-day orientation period known as Indoctrination, or Indoc, teaches plebe candidates the basics of maritime and regimental life at USMMA. Training will emphasize military discipline, daily regimental routine, physical fitness, basic seamanship, and an introduction to college-level academics.

Admiral Buzby Honors Mattis Family Legacy of Service

Maritime Administrator Rear Admiral Mark H. Buzby, USMMA ’79, presents Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis with a commemorative set of the decorations earned by his father as a Licensed Marine Engineer. Administrator Buzby presented the set to Secretary Mattis as part of the 82nd Commencement Exercises at the Merchant Marine Academy. Secretary Mattis was the keynote graduation speaker for the 187 graduating Midshipman.
