Kings Pointer Credited with Water Rescue in New Jersey

KINGS POINT, NY, Sept. 7, 2018 – On Friday, August 31, United States Merchant Marine Academy Alumnus, Lieut. Spencer Grinnell, USCG, USMMA Class of 2011, was part of a Coast Guard Search and Rescue crew that responded to a rescue call for an man and his 7-year-old granddaughter.

USMMA Celebrates Parents Weekend - Regimental Band Performs Ceremony of Beating Retreat

KINGS POINT, N.Y., September 4, 2018 – Midshipmen at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) at Kings Point enjoyed the holiday weekend with their families and friends who joined them for Parents Weekend. Close to 2,000 guests joined their Midshipmen for a weekend of activities that included tours, classroom and barracks visits, athletic events and a formal parade.

USMMA Receives ABET Accreditation

KINGS POINT, N.Y., Aug. 28, 2018 - The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point (USMMA) Bachelor of Science degree programs in Marine Engineering and Shipyard Management, and Marine Engineering Systems have been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

Midshipman Andrew Bouchot Receives Academy Commendation

KINGS POINT, N.Y., August 15, 2018 – Earlier this month,  during a lunchtime ceremony at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) at Kings Point, Captain Mike Stroud, Commandant of Midshipmen, presented Midshipman First Class Andrew Bouchot with the Academy Commendation Ribbon, recognizing him for "exceptional professionalism in saving lives at sea while assigned to heavy lift ship NORFOLK.”

USMMA Alumnus to Assume Leadership Role at CAL Maritime

KINGS POINT, N.Y. August 13, 2018 – The California State University Maritime Academy (CAL Maritime) announced on Friday that they have selected David Taliaferro as Commandant of Cadets. Taliaferro, a United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) Alumnus from the Class of 2007, has served in several leadership roles on the Commandant’s staff at USMMA since 2014. He will depart the Academy almost immediately and take over as Commandant at Cal Maritime on August 20.

USMMA Mourns the Passing of Peter J. Rackett, Class of 1961

KINGS POINT, N.Y., Aug. 9, 2018 – Yesterday, the United States Merchant Marine Academy learned of the passing of Mr. Peter J. Rackett, Class of 1961, a well-respected alumnus, shipmate and mentor to Midshipmen, staff and faculty alike.

“We are saddened by the death of a man whose life exemplified Acta Non Verba,” said Admiral James A. Helis, Superintendent of the Academy. “Our hearts go out to his family and to all those that counted him as a friend.”

180 Midshipmen Receive Academic Stars

KINGS POINT, N.Y., August 7, 2018 – Yesterday, United States Merchant Marine Academy Deputy Superintendent, Rear Admiral Susan L. Dunlap, Deputy Commandant, Captain Mike Stroud, and Interim Academic Dean, Captain Preston DeJean awarded Academic Gold and Silver Stars for academic excellence during the Third Term of Academic Year 2017-2018.
