U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Granted Full Accreditation

KINGS POINT, N.Y., November 20, 2017 — The Middle States Commission on Higher Education granted the US Merchant Marine Academy full reaccreditation on November 16, 2017, after determining the institution meets the commission’s rigorous and comprehensive standards in displaying characteristics of excellence in higher education.

Rear Admiral James, A. Helis, USMMA Superintendent, said, “I thank all of the staff, faculty, and Midshipmen who worked so hard to achieve this milestone.”

USMMA Celebrates 74th Birthday

KINGS POINT, N.Y., September 29, 2017 - Today, Midshipmen, faculty, staff and alumni of the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) took time to observe the Academy’s 74th birthday, which occurs on Saturday, 30 September.

Rear Admiral Susan Dunlap, Deputy Superintendent, and Captain Mike Stroud, Commandant of Midshipman, joined the Regiment of Midshipmen in recalling the Academy’s contributions to the Nation since its earliest days at Kings Point.

KINGS POINT, N.Y., September 8, 2017 – Last Friday, the Class of 2021, joined by an audience that included Maritime Administrator and USMMA Alumnus, Rear Admiral Mark H. Buzby, USN (Retired); Rear Admiral James A. Helis,  Superintendent and CAPT Mike Stroud, Commandant of Midshipmen, honored the lost sailors from the USS John S. McCain.
