USMMA Hosts Summer Open House
KINGS POINT, N.Y., August, 2 2017 – On Friday, the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) Office of Admissions hosted its Admissions Open House for high school students.
CDR Mike Bedryk, Director of the Office of Admissions, began by introducing Rear Admiral James A. Helis, USMS, Superintendent, to approximately 350 guests.
Admiral Helis welcomed the participants and introduced them to other key leaders, including the Deputy Commandant, Dean, Director of Physical Education and Athletics, and the Director of USMMA’s Academic Center for Excellence, as well as representatives from the Departments of Professional Development & Career Services and Waterfront Activities. Each gave a brief overview of his or her role at USMMA.
Later, guests enjoyed Midshipmen-led tours and met with faculty and staff.
CDR Bedryk said, “A lot of these students are in the process of applying for appointment to the Class of 2022. It’s great to provide them insight into the admissions process and show them what the Academy has to offer.”
