Dear Families and Guests of the Class of 2024:

We look forward to welcoming you to the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) for Graduation Weekend, which will culminate with USMMA’s 88th Commencement on Saturday, 22 June, 2024.

However, to make our visitor experience as pleasant as possible, we are sharing additional logistical and security information related to on-campus events.

Please note: Some on-campus events require advance tickets or RSVPs.

1000                   Academic Awards Convocation - Ackerman Auditorium

Service Branch-Specific Commissioning Ceremonies and Locations

1145     U.S. Air National Guard at the Yocum Sailing Center

1300     U.S. Air Force at the War Memorial

1330     U.S. Coast Guard at the War Memorial

1600     U.S. Army at the War Memorial (Note: This ceremony is after the Baccalaureate Service)

1430-1600         Baccalaureate Service - Mariners’ Chapel

1900-2300         Graduation Ball - Eldridge Pool Advance tickets holders & midshipmen

SATURDAY, JUNE 22, 2024

All guestS will UNDERGO A BAG SEARCH by SECURITY UPON ENTRY to TOMB Field – PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THE TIME REQIURED AND PLAN TO ARRIVE ACCORDINGLY - SPECIFIC GUIDANCE IS INCLUDED BELOW

0800                   Colors Formation – Powell Oval 

0900                   Commencement Exercises – Tomb Field (Rain location: O’Hara Hall)

•            Brooks Stadium seating is general admission — first come, first served (On-field seating is by invitation only)

•            Commencement will be livestreamed to Ackerman Auditorium, which will be air-conditioned

•            Water, cold coffee and light breakfast items will be available for purchase, while available

•            Wiley Hall access is restricted to the Official Party and Invited Guests Only

COMMENCEMENT ARRIVAL & ENTRY INSTRUCTIONS / SAFETY & SECURITY GUIDANCE

Tomb Field Entry:

• Entry and exit to Tomb Field will be through Tomb Field Gate 5 and Gate 6 along Steppingstone Lane
• Gates 5 and 6 will be open to the Public beginning at 0730
• Those on campus for Colors Formation or other activities who wish to enter Tomb Field for Commencement must exit through Vickery Gate in order to pass through one of the two Tomb Field security gates along Steppingstone Lane

Bags:

• Bags larger than 12” x 12” x 6” are not permitted
• Small bags will be inspected. Bag inspections will take place at Gate 6

Prohibited Items:

• Weapons, backpacks, camera cases, luggage, coolers, totes, large purses, open containers of any kind, hazardous materials, and any other items deemed unacceptable by USMMA

Parking:

• Parking instructions will be provided by Academy Security. Entry to the Academy grounds is through Vickery Gate and not restricted
• Handicap Parking is along Steamboat Road and Steppingstone Lane, indicated by blue cones along with handicap signage
• Please respect all “reserved” parking spaces. Obey Village of Kings Point “no parking” zones if parked off campus.
