Class of 1962 Continues Giving Back to USMMA

KINGS POINT, N.Y., February 10, 2014 – On Tuesday, the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) received a gift of $50,000  from the United States Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Foundation (USMMAAF) on behalf of the Class of 1962.  This generous donation will be placed in the Class of 1962 Fund for Midshipmen Professional and Leadership Development.

USMMA to Receive $ 1 Million in Additional Funding from the U.S. Maritime Administration

KINGS POINT, N.Y., January 30, 2014  – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration today announced that the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) and America’s six state maritime Academies will each receive $ 1 million from a government program that recycles obsolete vessels.  The funding will help ensure well-educated and highly skilled U.S. Merchant Marine officers are available to meet our nation’s national security and economic needs.

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Named One of Our Nation's "Best Value Colleges"

KINGS POINT, N.Y., January 29, 2014 - The Princeton Review yesterday released its annual list of the nation's "Best Value Colleges". The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) is one of 75 public colleges that have received this honor.  USMMA has been on the Princeton Review’s list of “Best Value Colleges” every year since the project began in 2004.

USMMA Hosts Successful Blood Drive to Benefit Long Island Blood Services

KINGS POINT, N.Y., - January 28, 2014.  Yesterday, the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) held its first blood drive of 2014. USMMA, in partnership with Long Island Blood Services, hosts three blood drives each year.  The blood drive was well attended by faculty, staff, midshipmen, parents and members of the local community. In total, they made 107 donations.

USMMA Holds Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Observance

KINGS POINT, N.Y., January 17, 2014 – On January 16, 2014, the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) held a special observance in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Ackerman Auditorium.  The program which was hosted by Ms. Tiffany Gist, USMMA’s Director of Office of Civil Rights focused on the legacy of Dr. King and encouraged midshipmen, faculty and staff to see the upcoming holiday as “a day on, not a day off.”

USMMA to Host Blood Drive to Benefit Long Island Blood Services

The public are invited to attend the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s  (USMMA) upcoming Blood Drive to benefit Long Island Blood Services. USMMA hosts three blood drives each year. This blood drive takes on critical importance at a time when LI Blood services is experiencing a shortage of blood supplies due recent severe weather in our area. Each donation has the potential to save three lives.

USMMA Holds Change of Command Ceremony

KINGS POINT, N.Y., January 6, 2104 – On December 16, 2013, the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) held a Change of Command Ceremony in Ackerman Auditorium where Commanding Officers of five companies, two battalions, and the Regiment of Midshipmen were relieved of their duties by classmates who will serve in their positions for the second half of Academic Year 2013-2014.
