The United States Merchant Marine Academy Celebrates Thanksgiving


KINGS POINT, N.Y., November 26, 2013 — Yesterday, the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) administration, faculty, staff and alumni joined the Regiment of Midshipmen to celebrate an early Thanksgiving.  The Regimental Thanksgiving Dinner held in Delano Hall is an annual tradition at USMMA and a special treat for midshipmen.

USMMA Midshipmen and Faculty Participate in National Chemistry Week

KINGS POINT, N.Y., October 30, 2013 – On Sunday, October 27th, six midshipmen and three members of the Math & Science faculty, representing the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) and its Science Club, participated in the celebration of National Chemistry Week at the New York Hall of Science in Queens, NY. Helis, PhD., welcomed back the entire Regiment of Midshipmen and assured them that the revised Academic calendar would allow the First Class to obtain their United States Coast Guard licenses and graduate as previously scheduled.

The United States Merchant Marine Academy Celebrates 70 Years

KINGS POINT, N.Y., September 30, 2013 – Today, the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) marks its 70th anniversary. The Academy, which began as a World War II Cadet Corps training facility, was dedicated as the United States Merchant Marine Academy on this date in 1943 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. “The Academy serves the Merchant Marine as West Point serves the Army and Annapolis serves the Navy,” said Roosevelt.
