USMMA Holds Change of Command Ceremony

KINGS POINT, N.Y., January 6, 2104 – On December 16, 2013, the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) held a Change of Command Ceremony in Ackerman Auditorium where Commanding Officers of five companies, two battalions, and the Regiment of Midshipmen were relieved of their duties by classmates who will serve in their positions for the second half of Academic Year 2013-2014.

USMMA to Host Annual Festival of Lights

The press and public are invited to attend the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy’s annual Festival of Lights, an interfaith holiday celebration.  The Festival of Lights has been an annual celebration for the past 36 years. The celebration of the Festival of Lights is a reminder to bring the light to the dark places within ourselves and in our world.

USMMA's Newest Training Vessel Completes First Training Cruise

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Last month the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) newest training vessel, the T/V Kings Pointer, made her maiden voyage from Jacksonville, FL to Ft. Eustis, VA.  The vessel was fully crewed by professional mariners plus a group of cadets earning sea days toward their United States Coast Guard (USCG) licenses. These midshipmen are the first “Kings Pointers” to obtain sea days during the vessel’s first dedicated training mission.

USMMA Welcomes USCG and International Maritime Officers

KINGS POINT, N.Y., November 22, 2013 — On Tuesday, the United States Merchant Marine Academy welcomed Captain Reed A. Stephenson, Commanding Officer of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Training Center Yorktown and 38 international maritime officers representing 26 countries.  Captain Stephenson, a graduate of USMMA, was joined by Mr. Robert Holt, International Training Division Officer, and instructors from the International Maritime Officers School in Yorktown, VA.

The United States Merchant Marine Academy Celebrates Thanksgiving


KINGS POINT, N.Y., November 26, 2013 — Yesterday, the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) administration, faculty, staff and alumni joined the Regiment of Midshipmen to celebrate an early Thanksgiving.  The Regimental Thanksgiving Dinner held in Delano Hall is an annual tradition at USMMA and a special treat for midshipmen.
