T/V Elizabeth Anne
T/V ELIZABETH ANNE
T/V Elizabeth Anne has been a fundamental part of the training vessel fleet at Kings Point. Formally known as the Mr. Wade, the boat was built in 1980 by Turn Ship Limited, located in LaRose, LA. In 1990, she was acquired by the Vane Brothers Co. located in Baltimore, MD. where she was renamed Elizabeth Anne. In 2014, she was retired from service and donated to the Academy.
The Elizabeth Anne is 60' in length with a gross tonnage of 200 Tons. The tug is powered by two newly rebuilt (2023) Detroit Diesel Engines, rated at a combined 800 horsepower mated through reduction gears to two inboard turning propellers.
Since being donated, Elizabeth Anne has undergone two maintenance periods where she has seen many new upgrades. Recently, new Radars, chart Plotter, AIS, auto Pilot, and rudder angle indicators have elevated "The Tug" to one of the most efficient and productive training platforms Kings Point Waterfront has to offer.
T/V Elizabeth Anne is moored inside Hague Basin at Kings Point, alongside Mallory Pier.
TUG CLUB
Founded in the fall of 2018, the tug club formed to introduce midshipmen into the towing industry. Through the club, midshipmen gain invaluable experience in towing operations, fulfilling all the requirements of the USCG Towing Officer Assessment Record (TOAR). Shown below, Captain Scott McCormick is demonstrating the maneuver of making up alongside a barge.
