USMMA Women's Track Breaks Academy Record Two Weeks In a Row
SOUTH HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (Feb. 4, 2017) – For the second straight week, the same exact USMMA relay squad that set an Academy record last week set a new one in a different event this week at the St. Joseph's Winter Invitational.
The team of freshman Alexa Vandermeer (Grove Heights, Minn.), junior Alex Miller (Stevensville, Mich.) and freshmen Sophia Tucker (Navarre, Fla.), and Anna Lewis (Lakehead, Calif.) crossed the finish line in the 4x200 event with a new school record of 1:56.51. The quartet came in ninth place in the event.
The 4x800 relay team of senior Mary Catherine Zehnder (Carle Place, N.Y.), sophomore Kelsey Ramirez (Stevensville, Mich.), junior Kaylee Kilbert (Canfield, Ohio) and freshman Carissa Buonerba (Atlanta, Ga.) had the Mariners' best finish at the event after they placed fifth with a time of 10:55.96. They earned the only two team points the Mariners had on the day.
Up next, the Mariners will travel to Haverford, Pa., next Saturday, Feb. 18, to take part in Haverford College's Keogh Invitational. Action is set to get underway at 11 a.m. at the Fords' Alumni Field House.
