USMMA Hosts Successful Blood Drive in Partnership with New York Blood Center
KINGS POINT, N.Y., January 30, 2026 The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) hosted another successful blood drive on Thursday, January 29, in partnership with the New York Blood Center (NYBC).
With participation from midshipmen, faculty, and staff, the New York Blood Center collected 159 donations, which may potentially save up to 477 lives. Thirty of the participants were first‑time blood donors.
I would like to extend a special thank you to the Superintendent's Office, the Commandant, Student Activities, Public Safety, and all those who helped make quick adjustments to accommodate the reschedule and ensure the success of this event, said Rick Sager, B.S., M.P.S., Director of Health Services and Health System Administrator. Last, and definitely not least, many thanks to the USMMA Emergency Medical Services and the EMS Officers for their outstanding setup, communications, and coordination efforts.
USMMA hosts multiple blood drives each year as part of its partnership with NYBC and its broader commitment to service and leadership.
