USMMA Hosts Admissions Field Representative Training
KINGS POINT, N.Y., February 2, 2017 –Last Friday the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) Department of Admissions welcomed Admissions Field Representatives for a day of training and interactive discussions regarding the USMMA admissions process. Field representatives, known as “field reps,” are alumni or parent volunteers who represent the Academy at various events in their local areas.
CDR Michael Bedryk, USMS, Director, Office of Admissions welcomed the participants who were then greeted by Rear Admiral James A. Helis, Superintendent, CDR Mikel Stroud, USMS, Acting Commandant, and CDR Preston DeJean, Acting Academic Dean. Later, the group heard presentations related to recruiting the best and brightest candidates for admission to USMMA. Topics included; Making Presentations, Sea Year, Athletics, Financial Aid and Applying to USMMA.
The day concluded with a walking tour that highlighted the many recent upgrades and improvements to the Academy.
CDR Bedryk said, “It was great to meet and hear from some of our admissions representatives in the field. The exchange of information will assist our future recruiting efforts.”
