Professor and Alumni Lead Midshipmen Tour of Cutting-Edge Technologies and Mission Critical Systems
KINGS POINT, N.Y., June 7, 2016 – Dr. Michael Melcer, a Professor in the Department of Math and Science, took nine Fourth Classmen to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL), the nation’s only tri-service joint base, in Lakehurst New Jersey on May 25, 2016.
The group was hosted by U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Class of 2001 alumni, Tim Zieser and Paul Cappeto, who work for a Naval Engineering group at Lakehurst. Dr. Melcer explained, “The day included a familiarization of the work they do to support the Carrier-Aircraft interface, and a tour of new aircraft catapult launch systems test facilities. The hosts described how their STEM education at USMMA and hands-on experience prepared them to be engaged in these cutting-edge technologies and mission critical systems.”
