Midshipmen Awarded Sea Year Ribbons
KINGS POINT, N.Y., December 12, 2019 – On Wednesday afternoon, Rear Admiral Jack Buono, Superintendent, Rear Admiral Susan Dunlap, Deputy Superintendent, Dr. John Ballard, Dean and Provost, Captain Mike Stroud, Commandant of Midshipman, and Captain Gene Albert, Head, Department of Professional Development and Career Services, presented Sea Year Ribbons to the Class of 2020’s A-split Midshipmen for their exceptional accomplishment during Sea Year.
CDR Paul D. Acquaro, USMS, Director of the Academic Center for Excellence, congratulated the midshipmen, saying, “the Sea Year Ribbon is considered the most prestigious of the academic awards a student can earn at USMMA. It requires outstanding performance, not only in all facets of self-driven academics while at sea, but also in Shipboard Performance Evaluations. Midshipmen that earn this award demonstrate the high quality and exemplary character that our industry partners look for in a Kings Point graduate.”
• Honor Ribbon: A QPA of at least 3.25 up to and including 3.49 for the first time, during the second sea year, no failing grades, and above average (3.0) on Shipboard Performance Evaluations, all of which have been entered in to PD&CS Shipboard Data Base at the time of the initial posting of Sea Project grades.
• Honor Ribbon with Bronze Star: A QPA of at least 3.50 for the second sea year, no failing grades, and above average (3.0) on Shipboard Performance Evaluations, all of which have been entered in to PD&CS Shipboard Data Base at the time of the initial posting of Sea Project grades.
• Honor Ribbon with Silver Star: A QPA of at least 3.25 for the second sea year period, no failing grades, and above average (3.0 or better) on Shipboard Performance Evaluations, all of which Evaluations have been entered in to PD&CS Shipboard Data Base at the time of the initial posting of Sea Project grades, and earned any Honor Ribbon during first sea period.
• Honor Ribbon with Gold Star: A QPA of at least 3.50 for the second sea year period, no failing grades, and above average (3.0 or better) on Shipboard Performance Evaluations, all of which Evaluations have been entered in to PD&CS Shipboard Data Base at the time of the initial posting of Sea Project
