Over the past month Cookie Cafe, a much loved custom at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), broke with tradition by taking their cookies to other maritime academies in order to bring comfort to students, alumni, faculty, staff and families who suffered the loss of a crew member aboard the El Faro lost during Hurricane Joaquin.
The United States Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) Regiment of Midshipmen, administration, faculty, staff and alumni were joined by Maritime Administrator Paul “Chip” N. Jaenichen and Deputy Maritime Administrator Mike Rodriguez (Kings Point ’79) for the annual Thanksgiving dinner celebration.

KINGS POINT, NY – November 17, 2015. This year’s fall training cruise aboard the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) Training Vessel, T/V Kings Pointer, was unlike any other. The midshipmen, officers and crew aboard became part of history when they delivered a binnacle from the SS Mayaguez to the Pentagon for a future exhibit.
KINGS POINT, N.Y., November 2, 2015 – Three Torah scrolls from the Mariners’ Memorial Chapel at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y., were rededicated in a Friday Evening Jewish Sabbath service, bringing together Jewish alumni and current midshipmen during this year’s Homecoming weekend.
NEW YORK, N.Y., October 30, 2015 – The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity and its corporate sponsor, LRN, awarded two United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) Class of 2015 graduates prizes for their submissions to the 2015 Elie Wiesel Foundation Prize in Ethics Essay Contest at a ceremony in New York City, last week.

KINGS POINT, N.Y. , October 27, 2015 – It is exam week at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), which normally means a lot of late night studying followed by - more studying. Today for the first time ever, midshipmen were greeted by several therapy dogs from the Long Island Canine Class Therapy Dog Team.
