USMMA Brightens the Holiday Season with 39th Festival of Lights

KINGS POINT, N.Y., December 13, 2016 – Last night, the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) hosted its 39th annual Festival of Lights in the Mariners’ Memorial Chapel.  The Festival of Lights is an interfaith celebration that has become a beloved tradition at USMMA.

Mariners Top Coast Guard, 50-47, Wednesday Night At Home

KINGS POINT, N.Y., December 7, 2016 – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's basketball team defeated visiting Coast Guard in its Superintendents' Trophy rivalry matchup on Wednesday night at the Liebertz Gym by the final score of 50-47. The Mariners improve to 2-7 on the season, while the Bears fall to 3-4 in defeat.
 

Midshipmen Honored for Academic Excellence in the Classroom and at Sea

KINGS POINT, N.Y., December 2, 2016 – Over the past month, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Superintendent, Rear Admiral James A. Helis, Deputy Superintendent, Rear Admiral Susan L. Dunlap, Acting Commandant, CDR Mikel Stroud, and Interim Academic Dean, CDR Preston DeJean have awarded Academic Gold and Silver Stars to 297 midshipmen for their outstanding accomplishments in the classroom during the First Term of Academic Year 2017.

USMMA To Host Annual Festival of Lights

The Festival of Lights has been an annual celebration for the past 39 years. The celebration of the Festival of Lights is a reminder to bring the light to the dark places within ourselves and in our world.

USMMA Celebrates Thanksgiving

KINGS POINT, N.Y., November 23, 2016 —  On November 21, Maritime Administrator, Paul N. “ChipJaenichen joined the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) administration, faculty, staff and Regiment of Midshipmen at the Regimental Thanksgiving Dinner in Delano Hall. The annual celebration is a much loved tradition at USMMA and a special treat for midshipmen. 

Captain David Palmer Awarded Maritime Service Commendation Medal

KINGS POINT, N.Y., November 22, 2016 – On November 10, 2016, during a lunchtime ceremony at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) at Kings Point, CAPT David J. Palmer, PhD, Class of 1991, received a medal recognizing him for outstanding performance as the Interim Dean of Academics.
