Prior Service
Armed Forces Enlisted Personnel
Enlisted members of the U.S. armed forces are encouraged to apply. This includes members on Active Duty, as well as members serving in any of the Reserve components.
The application process for enlisted members is essentially the same as for students applying for admission directly out of high school. Candidates must:
- Complete the online application by the 1 FEB deadline.
- Complete the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB) physical examination and be medically qualified.
- Pass the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA).
- Apply for and receive a nomination from either a U.S. Senator or a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives (the nomination may be from either their original home State of residence or the State in which they are currently residing).
Enlisted Service members may substitute two of the required school official evaluations with letters of recommendation from commissioned and non-commissioned officers in their current chain-of-command.
Conditional Release
Important: Enlisted service members must request a conditional release via their chain of command as soon as they decide to start the application.
Evaluation Process
Applications from enlisted members will be evaluated and considered for admission directly into the Academy. Enlisted members who do not meet the academic requirements for admission may also be considered for a prep school sponsorship to either New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) or Marion Military Institute (MMI). Upon successful completion of the prep program, candidates are offered admission to the Academy the following year.
Age Requirements
Applicants to the Academy must not have passed their 25th birthday by 1 July of the year they are applying for entry.
