Edenfield, Head of the Department of Marine Transportation, has received a federal appointment from Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to serve in the Merchant Marine Personnel Advisory Committee (MERPAC).

The United States Merchant Marine Academy welcomed its new Deputy Superintendent during a Town Hall meeting that was held at Ackerman Auditorium today. Rear Admiral Susan L. Dunlap was commissioned into the United States Maritime Service by Deputy Secretary of Transportation John Porcari in the presence of administration, faculty, staff and the Regiment of Midshipmen. Maritime Administrator David Matsuda also attended the commissioning ceremony along with Marlise Streitmatter, chief of staff for the Department of Transportation.
The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) football team continued its support of their adopted team member, Mighty Mikey, a child battling pediatric brain tumors, at the 2013 Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Snowball.
The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) has been invited to march in the 57th Inaugural Parade. The parade commences following President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden's swearing-in ceremony on Monday, January 21, 2013.
It was not only Martin Luther King, Jr. Day but also Inauguration Day early Monday morning as the Regiment of Midshipmen gathered together in the crisp January air and boarded buses bound for Washington, D.C. There was much excitement, as the anticipation from weeks of training and preparing to march in the Inauguration Parade built up to this one day.
It has been several months since United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) took delivery of the M/V Liberty Star, which will become the Academy’s new training vessel after retrofit and modernization work is complete.
