USMMA to Host Parents Weekend
KINGS POINT, N.Y. August 9, 2024 - The U. S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) at Kings Point will host Parents Weekend, August 30 – September 2, 2024.
Highlights of Parents Weekend will include a swearing-in ceremony and parade on Saturday August 31st, to mark the acceptance of the Plebe Class into the U.S. Navy Reserve. Click: 2024 Parents Weekend for a downloadable schedule of events.
The weekend will also offer opportunities to visit midshipman living quarters, academic classes, and sporting events. The Class of 2028 will enjoy their first night of liberty since entering the Academy. (Note: Restriction and watches remain in effect during Parents Weekend. Please check with your Midshipman/Plebe to ensure they meet eligibility requirements for liberty.

FRIDAY, August 30, 2024
0715 – Colors Formation – Flagpole
0730 – 1640 – Open Classroom Visitations. Visits are on a space available basis. This is your opportunity to visit classrooms and observe the midshipman learning environment. Due to limited space, midshipman must request faculty permission and confirm visitor attendance, in advance.
0800 – 1500 – Parents Association Chapters set-up on grassy area next to Barney Square.
0800 – 1600 – Waterfront open for general visiting.
0900 – 1500 – American Merchant Marine Museum open for general visiting.
0900 – 1600 – Mariners’ Memorial Chapel open for general visiting.
1130 – 1300 – Pick up Boxed Lunch at Barney Square (Ticket Required Advance Sales Only*)
1145 – 1200 – Lunch Muster and Regimental March in – Barney Square
**NOTE: All Midshipmen MUST eat noon meal with the Regiment in Delano Hall**
1300 – 1400 – Superintendents’ Forum – Ackerman Auditorium. Academic Dean, Commandant, and Regimental Commander will also be available to answer questions.
1700 – 1845 – Women’s Soccer Game vs Mercy University – Tomb Field.
1700 – 1930 – BBQ Dinner on Tomb Field (Families may have dinner with their Midshipmen).

1900 – 1930 – Evening Colors Ceremony at the Flagpole
1915 – 2100 – Men’s Soccer Game vs Five Towns College – Tomb Field.
2300 – Campus Closed. Midshipmen return to the Barracks.
**NOTE: Dress for Friday is informal: e.g. slacks/shorts and sport shirts for men; dresses, skirts or slacks/shorts for women. Low-heeled shoes recommended. **

0815 – 0830 – 2028 Class Picture – Tomb Field.
0900 – 1000 – Regimental Parade/Plebe Swearing-In Ceremony – Tomb Field.
0900 – 1500 – Museum open for general visiting.
1000 – 1100 – Barracks open for visiting.
1000 – 1100 – Women’s Volleyball Game vs Pratt Institute – O’Hara Gym.
1100 – Liberty will commence for all eligible Midshipmen.
** NOTE: Dress for Saturday is casual. Low-heeled shoes recommended.
