USMMA Regimental Band to March in New York St.Patrick's Day Parade
KINGS POINT, N.Y., March 14, 2016 - The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) Regimental Band, "George M. Cohan's Own", will march in New York City’s 255rd St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Fifth Avenue, in Manhattan.
The parade, which is the world’s oldest and largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade, will be held on Thursday, March 17, starting at 11 a.m. This year’s Grand Marshall is Senator George J. Mitchell, who is has been recognized as a “Legendary Peacemaker.”
The Academy’s Regimental Band and Color Guard have been given a very prestigious position. They will follow U.S Congress and Senate representatives, and will lead officials representing the Government of Ireland.
The Parade starts at 44th Street, and participants will march up to 79th Street. The first four hours of the parade will be televised on WNBC, Channel 4 in New York, and for the first time ever, in Ireland and the United Kingdom on IrishTV. It will also available on NBC’s Live Stream: St. Patrick’s Day 2016.
