USMMA Hosts Another Successful Job Fair
KINGS POINT, N.Y., April 5, 2023- This afternoon, The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) held its annual Shipping-Out Fair for the Class of 2023.
The event, which was coordinated by the Department of Professional Development and Career Services, welcomed 33 maritime unions, vessel owners and operators, military representatives and maritime-related Federal Agencies.
“We appreciate the support and commitment of our industry partners attending the USMMA Career Fair,” said Captain Ian Jones, Department Head, Professional Development & Career Services. “We value our relationships with each company that has taken the time to meet with and interview our midshipmen. We believe our highly trained and skilled mariners ensure a bright future for the U.S. Merchant Marine.”
First Classmen are excited about the many opportunities that will be available upon graduation. Midshipman Sunrae Sturmer, Regimental Training Vessel Master, said, “The Shipping-Out Fair is a great opportunity for First Classmen to finalize their plans for after graduation and make connections with a variety of companies and industries; it’s also an opportunity for underclassmen to create connections and get ideas for internships and future employment.”
The graduating class has reason to be optimistic; the Academy proudly maintains near 100 percent job placement.
