USMMA Announces Graduation Weekend Dates and Activities

 

KINGS POINT, New York, April 10, 2019 –  The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy schedule of significant events for graduation weekend appears below. Check back often for updates or changes. Some items are still to be determined, and will be updated as soon as possible.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, 2019

1700                Class of 2019 Reports back to the Academy

1800                Brief for Class of 2019 – Ackerman Auditorium

1900                Change of Command Rehearsal – Powell Oval

 

THURSDAY, JUNE 13, 2019

0730                2019 Class Photo – Tomb Field

0800                Graduation Rehearsal—Tomb Field

              (Class of 2019 muster on Steamboat Road)

1030                Awards Convocation Rehearsal - Ackerman Auditorium

1200                Change of Command Ceremony - Powell Oval-Wiley Hall 

                        Barbecue for Midshipmen, Parents & Guests at Eldridge Pool - Immediately following Change of Command

     (Rain location: Delano Hall).

    Midshipmen free; Parents and Guests, Faculty & Staff

    – $ 18.00 per person – Advance ticket sales*  

1900-2300       Senior Cruise – Sponsored by the Class of 2019 (See your midshipman for details)

Dress for Thursday is casual: e.g., slacks and sport shirts for men; dresses, skirts or slacks for women.

 

FRIDAY, JUNE 14, 2019

1000                Awards Convocation - Ackerman Auditorium

1200                Awards Luncheon – Barney Square**

1430-1530       Baccalaureate Service – Chapel – Speaker TBD

2000-2400       Graduation Ball - - Eldridge Pool Area. 

     Advance tickets required 

     (Midshipmen free/all others $15.00 per person***)

Dress for Friday daytime is casual.

Dress for parents and dates attending the ball is formal (Dinner Dress White Jacket or equivalent for military personnel, black tie, tuxedoes, dinner jackets, or dark suits for men; cocktail dresses or gowns for women).

SATURDAY, JUNE 15, 2019

0800                Colors Formation – Powell Oval (weather permitting)

1000               83rd Commencement Exercises for the Class of 2019

    – Tomb Field – Keynote speaker - TBD

 

Optional luncheon following graduation- $10 /per person sponsored by the USMMA Alumni Association and Foundation, located in the vicinity of Barney Square.

Suggested dress for Saturday is lightweight sport jackets for men; dresses, skirts, or pants for women. Comfortable shoes (no heels) recommended. Uniform is Service Dress White or service equivalent for military personnel.

NOTE: The Graduation Ceremonies will be held on Tomb Field, rain or shine.  In the event of inclement weather, please wear appropriate weatherproof clothing.  We discourage the use of umbrellas while seated in the stands, to avoid obstructing the view of other guests. Also note that the ceremony will be simulcast in Ackerman Auditorium, rain or shine, for guests wishing to watch the ceremony indoors

 

*Meal tickets for Thursday Lunch BBQ must be purchased in advance from the Delano commissary by June 10. Payment by cash or check, checks should be made out to “Crystal Enterprises.”
