USMMA Alumnus Captain Mark Kelly To Reunite With Twin, Captain Scott Kelly, Following His Year In Space

Live Coverage on NASA Television - Schedule update

KINGS POINT, N.Y., MARCH 1, 2016 – Tomorrow, Capt. Mark Kelly, United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) Class of ’86 will be reunited with his twin brother, State University Maritime College (SUNY) Maritime Alumnus, Capt. Scott Kelly, Class of ’87, after being apart for almost an entire year.  While reunions are not uncommon for maritime academy graduates, this one is exceptional. The identical twin astronauts, both retired Navy Captains, made it possible for NASA to study the effects of space on the human body.

The “Twins Study” is ten separate investigations coordinating together and sharing all data and analysis as one large, integrated research team. NASA has selected 10 investigations to conduct on each brother. These investigations will provide broader insight into the subtle effects and changes that may occur in spaceflight as compared to Earth by studying two individuals who have the same genetics, but are in different environments for one year.

Further information on the project is available on NASA’s Twin Study web page.

Live coverage of the Kelly brother’s reunion will be on NASA-TV at 10:15 p.m. (based on current landing and transportation plans).

NASA Television’s Live Coverage began on Monday February 29th and continues through Friday, March 4th. The entire schedule and live coverage is available at NASA TV.
