U.S. Navy Vaccination Requirements for Midshipmen

September 21, 2021

MEMORANDUM FOR ALL MIDSHIPMEN

FROM: Office of the Superintendent

Subject: U.S. Navy Vaccination Requirements

As you know, on Sept. 20, 2021, all Plebes were presented with a DD-4 enlistment contract incident to appointment as a Midshipman in the Navy Reserve. Per Department of Defense (DOD) policy, all service members, including reserve service members, are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless medically or administratively exempt. As a result, DOD’s policy will apply to all USMMA students who have been appointed as a Midshipman in the Navy Reserve. Navy Reserve service members must be fully vaccinated by Dec. 28, 2021.

Please note that this is a Navy order that applies to Navy personnel, including the Navy Reserve, and is separate and apart from any policy that may be adopted by the Department of Transportation (DOT) regarding mandatory vaccination of USMMA students. The DOT policy, which is currently under development, may vary from the Navy policy and may require vaccination sooner. When DOT’s policy becomes available, we will provide additional information pertaining to that policy. We encourage all students to become fully vaccinated as soon as possible to protect themselves and the Regiment.
