Sea Fair 2016 Demonstrates Industry Demand for Kings Point Graduates

KINGS POINT, N.Y., September 22, 2016 — Yesterday, maritime professionals and hiring managers from 23 companies, federal agencies, and maritime-related organizations participated in the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) annual career fair, Sea Fair 2016, held in O’Hara Hall.

The entire Regiment of Midshipmen were invited to participate in the event, which was coordinated by the Department of Professional Development and Career Services, under the Direction of CAPT Gene Albert. Those who attended were introduced to the many opportunities for military, federal and maritime service.

Company representatives expressed a very strong desire to hire USMMA graduates.  Ms. Devon Yancey, Marine Recruiter for Crowley Maritime said, “Crowley is a company that is very interested in hiring Kings Pointers.  Crowley has a lot of opportunities coming up in the near future, with various fleets, and we want to make sure they are aware.”

The Academy maintains near 100 percent job placement, annually.  CAPT David Palmer, Interim Academic Dean, was extremely pleased by the number of participants offering obligation-fulfilling employment.  “Once again, USMMA is honored to have so many prestigious maritime companies and U.S. military recruiting our students, who proudly serve the marine transportation and defense needs of our great Nation,” said Palmer.
