Sea Fair 2015 Shows Strong Demand for USMMA Graduates
KINGS POINT, N.Y., September 29, 2015 — Maritime professionals and hiring managers from 32 companies, federal agencies, military and maritime-related organizations participated in the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) annual career fair, Sea Fair 2015, held in O’Hara Hall earlier today.
The event, coordinated by the Department of Professional Development and Career Services, introduced the entire Regiment of Midshipmen to opportunities for internships and full-time military, federal and maritime service.
Recruiters from all over the United States expressed a very strong desire to hire USMMA graduates. Mr. Jesse Wentworth, Outreach Program Specialist, National Oceanographic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said, “Given NOAA’s unique mission and our roots back to Thomas Jefferson and the coastal survey, we come to Kings Point to take advantage of the talent the midshipmen bring and apply on day one. Overall, they are a great fit for our organization.”
The future is extremely bright for Kings Pointers. In the recent College Scorecard, issued by the U.S. Department of Education, among the 98 four-year schools offering transportation programs USMMA ranked first for “Earnings After School” and “Percentage of Earning Above High School Graduate”.
Capt. Eugene Albert, Head of the Department of Professional Development and Career Services was very pleased by the number of participants offering obligation-fulfilling employment. “The job market for USMMA graduates pursuing a career at sea remains high.” said Albert. Annually, the Academy maintains near 100 percent job placement.
