KINGS POINT, N.Y., July 12, 2016 – Underway training began yesterday aboard two of the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) training vessels, T/V Kings Pointer and Liberator.

The T/V Kings Pointer, with 23 Class of 2016 Deck Majors aboard, will transit up Long Island Sound, Buzzard's Bay and Cape Cod Canal enroute to Penobscot Bay, Maine. The particular focus of training for this voyage will be both coastal and near coastal navigation and inshore piloting through terrestrial and electronic means.

The T/V Liberator will be serving double duty, training both Class of 2019 midshipmen and Plebe Candidates.

The voyages include all Class of 2019 Deck Majors who were scheduled to sail during this period, except those in summer school, on a hold, or who already sailed on T/V Kings Pointer during its June Summer Cruise.
