High Industry Demand for Academy Graduates at Sea Fair 2012
KINGS POINT, N.Y., September 26, 2012 - Representatives from 45 companies, federal agencies, and maritime-related organizations came aboard this week for the United States Merchant Marine Academy's annual career fair, Sea Fair 2012, held in O'Hara Hall.
The event, coordinated by the Department of Professional Development and Career Services, brought together major maritime unions, vessel owners and operators, drillships and rigs, federal shipyards and the Regiment of Midshipmen. The 500 or more midshipmen who participated, were introduced to opportunities for military and volunteer service. The companies present expressed a very strong desire to hire USMMA graduates. Mr. Billy Campbell, director of Marine Personnel at Liberty Maritime Corporation, said "The midshipmen are reliable and committed to their duty and service - and the mission of Liberty Maritime is service to the world on U.S.- Flagged vessels."
The Academy maintains near 100 percent job placement, each year. Captain Gene Albert, head of the Department of Professional Development and Career Services was very pleased with the number of participants offering obligation-fulfilling employment. He stated, "We are confident that the graduating Class of 2013 will find success in their employment endeavors."
