KINGS POINT, N.Y., April 10, 2013 - The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) held its annual Shipping-Out Fair for the Class of 2013.  The event, which was coordinated by the Department of Professional Development and Career Services, welcomed major maritime unions, vessel owners and operators, and military representatives who met with and interviewed the graduating class.  Most of the 25 companies who attended were regular attendees, who return annually acknowledging the extremely positive experiences that they have had with their USMMA Alumni employees. 

“The job market for USMMA Class of 2013 appears bright as demonstrated by the very successful Shipping-Out Fair. We are confident the entire class will obtain obligation fulfilling employment,” said Dr. Shashi Kumar, PhD, Academic Dean. “Captain Eugene Albert and his team did an outstanding job and recruited several employers that provide exceptional afloat opportunities for our graduates, making this probably our best Shipping-Out Fair in recent memory.”

First Classmen agreed that it was an exciting day. Midshipman Michael Tuttle stated, “The deeper I get into license prep, the more excited I am for the real work to begin.  The job fair is just a reminder of that.” 

Midshipman Roshenda Josephs added, “ Being able to put four years of hard work and dedication into learning about the maritime industry has been an unforgettable experience; now we will gain satisfaction by applying all of our skills at the companies we plan to work for.”  

The graduating class has reason to be optimistic; the Academy proudly maintains near 100 percent job placement.
