BINGO! Midshipmen Enjoy a Fun Night at Delano Hall
KINGS POINT, N.Y., May 20, 2016 - On Wednesday night, over two hundred students participated in Midshipmen Bingo in Delano Hall. Presented by the Office of Student Activities and the Company Morale Officers, it was the first event of its kind at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Billed as, "Not Your Grandmother's Bingo," midshipmen won prizes funded by the Regimental NAFI, which included practical items like Metro Cards, train tickets on the LIRR, soap, and detergent. The grand prize winner was Midshipmen 4th Class Trever Huss who took home a Bluetooth speaker.
"This was great break from studying. I am so glad they put this together," commented Midshipmen 2nd Class John Darling. Midshipmen 4th Class William Brooks shouted, “The pressure!", in one video of the event as Midshipman 2nd Class Blythe Fentress called the numbers.
Delano Hall was alive with excitement, cheers and jeers as Midshipmen won - or just missed, their bingo. The night was a creative way to bring the classes together as first classmen await license exams and graduation, and fourth classmen head to sea for the first time.
