A group of five U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) midshipmen participated the first annual Yale Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Leadership Conference in February.

KINGS POINT, NY – March 21, 2015 –Thirty four midshipmen from The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) attended the Eighth Women on the Water Conference at California Maritime Academy last week. 

The annual conference, which is hosted by a different U.S. maritime academy each year in conjunction with the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD), brought together 287 maritime professionals, licensed mariners, professors and maritime academy cadets. 

KINGS POINT, N.Y.,  Mar. 18, 2016 - The United States Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) Regimental Band, “George M. Cohan’s Own”, and Color Guard marched in New York City’s 255th St. Patrick’s Day Parade. This year, they were one of the first bands to march in the parade. They followed U.S Congress and Senate representatives and led officials from the Government of Ireland.

Two U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) midshipmen experienced “a trip of a lifetime” as part of Operation Deep Freeze (ODF), this year’s resupply mission to McMurdo Station, Antarctica.

KINGS POIT, N.Y., March 8, 2016 - The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy’s Kings Point Eagle Scout Association took advantage of some unseasonably warm weather during the month of February, to backpack through the trails of New York’s Harriman State Park.                         

KINGS POINT, N.Y., March 8 2016 – U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) midshipmen and plebes enrolled in two sections of the Department of Marine Transportation’s Business of Transportation Class were treated to an extensive tour of the APM Container Terminal in Port Elizabeth, New Jersey, in mid-February.

KINGS POINT, N.Y., MARCH 1, 2016 – Tomorrow, Capt. Mark Kelly, United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) Class of ’86 will be reunited with his twin brother, State University Maritime College (SUNY) Maritime Alumnus, Capt. Scott Kelly, Class of ’87, after being apart for almost an entire year.  While reunions are not uncommon for maritime academy graduates, this one is exceptional.

This past week was a great week for our Athletic program here at USMMA! Both the Swimming & Diving and Wrestling programs had a team member qualify for the NCAA Championships, our Men’s Lacrosse team defeated arch-rival Coast Guard, two student-athletes earned ECAC weekly praise, Swim & Dive Coach Sean Tedesco was honored by the ASCA and the 2016 baseball schedule was revealed.

KINGS POINT, N.Y., February 29, 2016 – This month the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) at Kings Point added a barge to its fleet of training vessels. SWOB FP-217, once used as a Sewage Ship Waste Offload Barge (S-SWOB) was originally designed to collect sewage from Navy ships and small craft that are at anchor or are moored at piers without sewers.
